Pelvis: Advanced Pelvic Stabilization
Course Details
Date: Jan 31, 2027. 7:30 am
Location: Skill Lab, Al Najaf Teaching Hospital
Course Goals
The primary goal of this course is to provide a systematic approach to unstable pelvic fractures. Participants will learn to perform supraacetabular external stabilization and the definitive percutaneous internal fixation required for posterior ring disruptions.
Target Participants
- Senior Orthopedic Residents.
- Trauma and Pelvic Surgeons.
- Emergency Surgical Teams
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Master Pelvic Fluoroscopy: Identify and align the critical "Inlet," "Outlet," and "Lateral" views of the sacrum to define the safe osseous pathways.
- Execute Iliosacral Screw Placement: Demonstrate the percutaneous insertion of cannulated screws into the S1 and S2 corridors.
- Apply Supra-acetabular External Fixation: Identify the "safe zone" for robust frame foundation.
- Analyze Sacral Dysmorphism: Identify anatomical variations that may contraindicate standard iliosacral screw placement to prevent nerve root injury.
Course Highlights
- The "Fluoroscopic Navigation" Lab: A dedicated session on a pelvic model to master the 3D mental reconstruction of the sacral corridors using 2D X-rays.
- Percutaneous Station: Practice the "Guide-wire and Ream" technique for iliosacral screws under simulated C-arm guidance.
- EA workshop on the rapid application of a supra-acetabular frame for the "Open Book" pelvic injury.
