Our Department recently hosted a core academic session focused on the AO Basic Principles of Fracture Management, delivered by Dr. Zaid Alshididi. Designed as a foundational pillar for our residency training program, the lecture provided a comprehensive deep dive into the biomechanics of internal fixation. The session meticulously covered the classification and application of various orthopedic screws (cortical, cancellous, and locking) and the diverse functional roles of plates, including their use in compression, neutralization, buttressing, and bridging modes. By grounding our residents in these essential principles—balancing stable fixation with the preservation of blood supply—we continue to uphold the highest standards of surgical excellence and evidence-based trauma care at Al Najaf Teaching Hospital.
